Follow the steps to choose a domain name.
a) Choose a name that is short at generic.
b) Choose the extensions that you might prefer.
c) Check for the availability of the domain name in all preferred extensions.

d) It may already have been registered by other users. If it was not available for registration go for a different name. Don't waste you time and money unless it is atmost important.

Registering Domain Name:

You can register a name for a period ranging from 1 to 20 years.
a) How to register a domain name: There are a lot of Domain name registrars like hiox india who will do the domain name registration for you. Just give them your details and choose the name you wish to own. They will do the registration.
b) The cost may vary between registrars. It will cost few dollars per year/domain. The cost may vary depending on the TLD (.com/.net/etc..) also.
c) Once you have registered for a domain, it may take from 24 to 48 hours before the information gets updated universally in the whois database.
d) Once registration is completed you are the sole owner of the name till the registration period expires.
After the domain name is registered you will be provided with a username and password. Using it you can change the name server, personal details.
