Domain name is the name that is typed into a browser to get the desired website. A domain name consist of one or more parts seperated by dot's.

Domain names are categorized as Top Level Domains(TLD)'s, Second Level Domains. Before registering a domain name, the availability of a domian name can be queried by checking the "Whois" information.

To have authority over a domain name, it has to be registered. Domain name registration was started in 1960's under the domain name registrars, an integral part of ICANN( Internet Corporation for Assigned Names And Numbers). Domains can be registered for a period of 1 year upto 10 years time. Domains can be registered easily, at the same time at a cheaper price.

Registration of domain names has to be renewed before the expiry date, otherwise your website name can be used by others. Renewing the Domain name at the right time can save from loosing the online identity. Even choosing the domain name is important as it represents a business.
