What is Regular Expression Operator s/// in Perl?
|
|
Explanation |
|
s/// Operator:
The "s///" is search and replace operator, where first argument is the searched pattern, second argument is
to provide the replacement argument.
Example:
#! C:\programfiles\perl\bin\perl
print "content-type: text/html\n\n";
$string = 'Maurice mike is the father of Morris mike';
if ($string =~ s|mike||)
{
print "String contains the word mike";
}
else
{
print "String doesnt have the string mike";
}
Result:
String contains the word mike
In the above example, the string is searched to the match the pattern "mike", and as the replace option
is blank no string is replaced. It displays the word 'mike' that is searched for, is found in the string.
Example:
#! C:\programfiles\perl\bin\perl
print "content-type: text/html\n\n";
$string = 'Maurice mike is the father of Morris mike';
$string =~ s|mike|brown|g;
print $string;
Result:
Maurice brown is the father of Morris brown
Above we have used the same example, we have used the search and replace operator with a global scope. Every
occurence of the word 'mike' is replaced with 'brown' to get a new string.
