What is ord Function in Perl?

ord function is used to return the ASCII numeric value of the string specified.
Syntax:
ord EXPR;
ord;
In the above syntax, ord() takes a "string" as the argument.
Example:
#! C:\programfiles\perl\bin\perl
print "content-type: text/html\n\n";
print ("ord ('L')");
Result:
76
In the above ord function example the ASCII value of the string "L" is returned as "76".
