This function is used to search for one string or substring within another string.
Syntax:
index STR,SUBSTR,POSITION
index STR,SUBSTR
Example:
#! C:\programfiles\perl\bin\perl
print "content-type: text/html\n\n";
$str = "hioxindia";
$chr = "i";
$out = index($str,$chr);
print "Index of the $chr is at:$out\n";
print "<br>";
$str2= "hiindia";
$chr2 = "in";
$out2 = index($str,$chr2);
print "Index of the substring $chr2 is at:$out2\n";
Result:
Index of the i is at:1
Index of the substring chr2 is at:4
In the above Perl example already a string "hioxindia", is checked for the string "i" and its indexed at "1",
then the substring "in" is checked in "hiindia", its indexed at "4".
