What is sort() Function in Perl programming?
|
|
Explanation |
|
The sort() function is used to sort a list of values.
Syntax:
sort()
In the above syntax sort function takes a list as argument, sort() function is case sensitive.
Example:
#! C:\programfiles\perl\bin\perl
print "content-type: text/html\n\n";
@color = ('Green', 'Orange', 'Blue', 'Pink');
@color = sort(@color);
print "Arrays in Title Case:";
print "<br>";
foreach $key (@color)
{
print "$key\n";
print "<br>";
}
@color1 = ('Green', 'orange', 'blue', 'Pink');
@color1 = sort(@color1);
print "Arrays in Mixed Case:";
print "<br>";
foreach $key (@color1)
{
print "$key\n";
print "<br>";
}
Result:
Arrays in Title Case:
Blue
Green
Orange
Pink
Arrays in Mixed Case:
Green
Pink
blue
orange
In the above example the first the array is sorted with all the values in the same case, next the array is sorted in
two parts, first the array elements that are in "Titlecase" are sorted first and then the elements in "Lowercase" are sorted.
